IMPORTANT: Just because I think you should sell a guy, it does not mean dump him for anything. I'm saying that these guys have great value compared to what I expect their season value to be going forward.
Sell High On....
James Jones - Currently 30th in WR rankings.
This one is a little deceptive because he is coming off a season where he finished 24th in WR rankings. However he is one of the biggest boom or bust guys out there. You can't rely on him every week, but as soon as you bench him, he'll go off. I've always believed that championships are won through consistency, and that when you put your lineup out there, you always feel pretty good with who you are starting. For example, last season James Jones biggest game (60 yards and 3 TDs) came a week after getting 27 yards 0 TDs.
Guys currently being outscored by Jones that I would take in a trade: Marques Colston, Hakeem Nicks, Mike Wallace (with his own inconsistency issues), Justin Blackmon (risky, but he has top 15-20 WR talent). Jones might end up with more points than some of these, but he will kill you some weeks.
Philip Rivers - Currently 3rd in QB rankings
Now, I do like Rivers, but considering you most likely didn't draft him and he is probably not your starting QB, his value is way too high to be on your bench. Rivers played pretty poorly against Oakland but still ended up with a good passing day. The best option is to package him with a lesser WR or RB for a big upgrade at either position. For example, I targeted a guy who had no elite QB (Russell Wilson) and offered him Rivers and MJD for Brandon Marshall. He accepted. You might not get this lucky, but you could probably do something pretty close.
Peyton Manning/Wes Welker - #1 & #2 at their respective positions.
Okay, if you own these guys, they are probably a huge factor in your success so far and you never even considered trading them. But hear me out: If you have positional needs! It might make sense to look at a trade. Peyton Manning would go for a King's ransom. You could put almost any offer out there and the other owner would have to at least consider it. Say you drafted CJ Spiller and MJD as your guys and you are really struggling at RB. I think its possible you could trade Manning for Matt Forte and the starting QB of the other team. At WR, could you get Victor Cruz and a top tier QB? If you need a big player at one of those positions, its just something to consider. For Welker, I do love him this year and I still think he is a top 10 guy this year. But the TD rate is unsustainable.
Guys currently being outscored by Welker that I would consider in a trade: Julio Jones, Victor Cruz, Calvin Johnson, Demaryius thomas. Thats about it, but I think any one of those is a very possible trade. AJ Green is struggling a bit, could you get him AND something else? I'm not sure, but its worth a shot.
Bilal Powell - Currently 13th in RB rankings
With Powell, he's not terrible, but he has played well above his talent lately. With Mike Goodson back on the field, the window to trade Powell for a good value is short. There is always the one owner out there that will look strictly at the point totals and consider a trade.
Guys currently being outscored by Powell that I would take in a trade: Alfred Morris (I would be surprised if someone accepted this, but you never know), Giovani Bernard, Trent Richardson, Chris Johnson (again, I would be surprised, but he has been frustrating as always), C.J. Spiller, and Lamar Miller (Last guy on this list that I would try to go for)
That's it for part 1. Part 2, who to target as a buy low candidate will be coming soon. Stay tuned. Let me know what you think in a comment or on Twitter @Lopsided Trades
